Bedroom Suite Foyer Update: Trim Painted and Progress in Motion
Yesterday, I finally tackled all the trim and wainscoting in our bedroom foyer. With each step completed, my excitement grows—I can almost see the finished space in my mind. There’s nothing quite like a fresh coat of paint on trim and walls in an area that has felt messy and chaotic for so long.
I didn’t get around to painting the upper walls, and I realized I didn’t have any ceiling paint on hand. Rather than make an extra trip to Home Depot, I focused on finishing the trim and wainscoting, which was satisfying in itself.
Interestingly, in person, the trim and wainscoting look flawless and complete. But while editing photos, I noticed some areas in the wainscoting will need a second coat. Sigh. Oh well—the hard part is done. Touching up the streaky spots won’t take long, and the transformation is already impressive.
Those large sections inside the picture frame molding appear streaky in photos, though they look fine in real life. I can already imagine how stunning it will look once the teal grasscloth is applied to the upper walls.
The bathroom (storage room) doors still need painting. I managed to dust off two-thirds of them but then got sidetracked—story of my life!
I especially love how the doorway into the closet looks. Once the grasscloth is up, it’s going to be beautiful. I even took a few wide-angle shots of the foyer to show the whole area—though keep in mind, the wide-angle lens makes the space look larger than it really is.
So far, I’m thrilled with all the design decisions—the wainscoting, the floor color, and the walk-in closet doorway are coming together beautifully. The only lingering decision is the ceiling light. I had considered removing it entirely and relying on wall sconces, but that wouldn’t provide enough light. A flush-mount light like in the closet could work, but it doesn’t feel special enough for the bedroom suite foyer. With 8-foot ceilings, finding the perfect statement light is tricky—but I’m determined to find something that elevates the space.
It’s incredible to look back at how much this small area has evolved over the years. Originally, this hallway led to three bedrooms: the guest room (now a home gym, soon to be our bedroom), the master bedroom (now our big accessible bathroom), and the third bedroom (now a walk-in closet and laundry combo).
Over time, walls were moved, doorways widened, closets removed, and the entire layout shifted. What was once a simple hallway is now a transformed foyer connecting our bedroom suite. It may be a small space, but it’s undergone a huge metamorphosis.
I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turning out. The design and layout of this area are even better than what I originally envisioned. From wainscoting to lighting, flooring, and doors, every decision feels right, and the space is finally coming to life.
