I haven’t made quite as much progress as I had hoped at this stage, mostly because I allowed myself to take it easy over the weekend. Even though I did manage to get some work done, fatigue was creeping in, and I realized I needed a little rest to recharge. By Sunday afternoon, though, I was ready to dive back in. I focused on painting the ceilings in both the foyer and the bedroom, and then I moved on to the bedroom walls to get them prepped and ready for trim.
When I went to bed that night, I thought I was completely finished with the painting. But, as it turns out, I had overlooked a critical step—the brushwork. I usually do all the cutting in with a brush before rolling, but somehow, I completely forgot to cut in the lower walls with the white paint. So before I can begin installing the trim today, I’ll need to spend a bit of time going back and finishing that. It’s a small task, but a necessary one.
Even so, I can hardly contain my excitement over how this space is shaping up. There’s still a long way to go, but just seeing it come together makes my heart race a little. The upper wall color is only temporary until the grasscloth wallpaper goes up, but even as a stand-in, it’s already transforming the room.
The thought of being enveloped by my favorite color in the world—teal, of course—and my favorite wall finish, grasscloth wallpaper, has me envisioning a dream bedroom. Pair that with crisp white wainscoting and elegant trim, and I know we’ll have a space that’s simultaneously luxurious, calming, and incredibly comfortable. Or, to be honest, a dream bedroom for me—Matt, bless him, doesn’t really care. 😀
What continues to amaze me is how perfectly the layout of our bedroom suite has evolved. It’s nothing like what we originally planned, yet somehow, it’s even better. I remember feeling frustrated when the flooring in our home gym was ruined and needed replacement, which forced us to adjust our plans. At the time, I thought we might be settling for less than what I had envisioned.
But now? Not a bit of disappointment remains. The bedroom suite we are creating exceeds all of our original expectations. It’s truly a case of life’s unexpected detours leading to an even better destination than planned.
At this moment, the space looks messy—let’s be honest, a bit chaotic—but you’ll have to use your imagination to see the potential “pretty” that’s about to emerge. Once the trim goes up today, the room will start coming together in a way that will truly showcase its transformation. Already, the difference from where we started is astonishing.
What was once a cramped, awkward space has been completely reimagined. The removal of those remaining closet walls has opened up the room dramatically. It now feels spacious and airy, a dramatic shift from its original, enclosed feeling.
Even the little hallway connecting the foyer to what was the home gym, which I used to dislike, has become a feature I now love. It has been transformed from a narrow, overlooked passage into an element that enhances the bedroom suite, giving it a sense of flow and a bit of architectural interest.
Painting the ceiling in a uniform color has made an enormous difference as well. The room feels brighter, more cohesive, and more inviting. And speaking of ceilings, the foyer ceiling, which previously had that one unpainted corner, is now fully finished, giving the space a clean, polished look.
Today, my goal is to begin the trim work. I’ll start by trimming out the new doorway, then move on to the chair rail and baseboards. The crown molding will be the most challenging element, especially working solo, but I’ve tackled it many times before, and I know I can handle it.
While there’s still a significant amount of work ahead, I can’t help but feel proud of the progress. Seeing the space evolve, even in stages, is incredibly motivating. This is a big step forward, and every stroke of paint, every piece of trim installed, brings us closer to the bedroom of our dreams.
It’s funny how a project like this teaches patience and persistence. Every time I look at the room, I can see both the journey so far and the exciting transformation still to come. And that’s what makes every bit of effort worth it.
